FM Broadcast Engineering

Technical analysis for new full-power FM proposals, existing facility changes, coverage questions, and FCC engineering filings — in both the noncommercial and commercial bands.

Noncommercial and commercial stations

Full-power FM work covers both halves of the band. Noncommercial educational proposals in the reserved band, channels 201–220, and commercial proposals on channels 221–300 are studied for spacing and contour protection against the stations and allotments around them.

  • New station and major-change studies
  • Spacing and contour protection review
  • Table of Allotments searches
  • Noncommercial reserved-band proposals

Facility planning and modifications

FM facility changes affect coverage, protected contours, nearby stations, antenna requirements, and the technical information submitted to the FCC. Nexus Broadcast evaluates the proposal as a complete RF system rather than a single changed value.

  • Transmitter site and coordinate changes
  • ERP and HAAT evaluations
  • Antenna model, polarization, gain, and mounting considerations
  • Directional antenna pattern review
  • Channel and class feasibility analysis
  • Existing-versus-proposed facility comparisons

Coverage and interference

Studies can include FCC contour calculations, terrain-aware propagation analysis, service-area comparisons, population estimates, and review of potential co-channel or adjacent-channel conflicts.

Application support

When a proposal is ready to move forward, the technical data and supporting exhibits can be organized for the applicable FCC filing.
