Station apps

Your station, on every listener's phone.

A custom app for your radio station on iPhone and Android: live stream, lock-screen controls, song requests and a local business directory. Replacing an old app? Your listeners get the new one as an ordinary update.

What your listeners get

Everything a listener expects from a radio app

Built for radio, not adapted from something else. Listeners press play and it works, and it keeps working while they do something else.

Your station on every phone

A real app on iPhone and Android, with your name, your logo and your colours. Listeners find it in the App Store and Google Play.

Keeps playing when the phone locks

The stream carries on with the screen off and in the pocket, with play and pause on the lock screen and in the car.

Song and album art on the lock screen

Listeners see what is playing right now, with the cover art, without opening the app.

Recently played

A list of the last songs on the air, so nobody has to call the studio to ask what that tune was.

Request a song, call or text the studio

One tap to send a request, ring the request line or text the studio. Your phone number, wired in.

Website and Facebook buttons

Send listeners to your website, your Facebook page and your events with one tap, always the current link.

A local business directory

A built-in directory of local businesses, each with its own page: call, get directions, visit the website. A new reason to open the app, and something to sell.

Updates without a reinstall

New features, a new phone number, a changed button: updates reach listeners' phones on their own. Nobody has to download the app again.

Two ways to have one

Your own app, or a seat in a shared one

Your own branded app

The app carries your station's name, icon and look, and sits in the App Store and Google Play under your name. Best for a station that wants to own its listeners' home screens.

  • Your station opens its own Apple Developer account ($99 a year) and Google Play developer account ($25, one time)
  • You add Nexus Broadcast as an administrator; we build and publish the app and every update
  • Apple and Google require every branded app to come from the station's own account, so the app is yours
  • Replacing an existing app (for example one made through your streaming provider)? Publish ours on the same listing and current users receive it as an update

A spot in the shared Nexus app

One app in the stores, with listeners choosing their station from a list. Best for a station that wants to be on phones quickly with no developer accounts to open.

  • No Apple or Google accounts for the station to set up or pay for
  • Your stream, now playing, requests, studio buttons and directory, under your station's name inside the app
  • Listeners pick your station once and the app opens on it next time
  • Upgrade to your own branded app later if you want one

Pricing

What it costs

Your own branded app

$1,495 one time to build

$49 a month for hosting and updates, or $490 a year (two months free)

Published under your station's name in the App Store and Google Play. You pay Apple $99 a year and Google $25 once, directly to them.

A spot in the shared Nexus app

$295 one time to build

$29 a month for hosting and updates, or $290 a year (two months free)

Listeners pick your station inside the Nexus app. No Apple or Google accounts, no store fees.

Hosting covers the live stream connection, now playing, the directory feed and every update that reaches listeners' phones. Apple's and Google's developer fees for a branded app are paid by the station to Apple and Google, not to Nexus Broadcast.

How it goes

From first call to listeners' phones

  1. Tell us about your station. Your name, logo, stream address, request line and website.
  2. Choose your path. Your own branded app, or a spot in the shared Nexus app.
  3. Branded app: open your developer accounts. We walk you through it and you add Nexus as administrator. The shared app skips this step.
  4. Test it on your own phone. You hear your stream and see your buttons before anyone else does.
  5. Publish. The app goes to the stores, and later changes reach phones as updates.

Want the website to match?

We design and host station websites too, with the same player, requests and directory, so your app and your site tell listeners the same thing.

Start here

Tell us which way suits your station.

Send your station's name and stream address and we will tell you what the app would look like for you, and which of the two ways fits.

Nexus Broadcast — broadcast engineering, station software and the websites and apps in front of both.
