Ted Korte, who ran broadcast infrastructure work tied to the first C-band spectrum transition at USSI Global, is now the company's chief technology officer. The Melbourne, Fla.-based firm said he will report to President-CEO Anthony Morelli.
In the new job Korte takes charge of the technology, engineering and technical management teams across USSI Global's business units. Those units cover broadcast media, networks and digital signage. His remit includes building out system-level engineering, sizing up emerging technologies and developing solutions for customers.
Korte came to USSI Global in 2021 as vice president of program management and innovation lab. He later moved into the engineering organization as vice president of engineering and technology. Among his projects was the company's Media Transport Solutions Lab, a vendor-agnostic test environment where broadcasters and media companies can try satellite, terrestrial IP, cloud and other connectivity options before rolling them out at scale.
Morelli credited Korte with moving the company beyond installation and project management. "He has helped us move beyond simply implementing systems to becoming a trusted technical adviser that customers and technology partners turn to for answers, ideas and innovative solutions," Morelli said.
Before USSI Global, Korte spent nearly 22 years at Harris Corp. in engineering leadership roles covering broadcast automation, servers and transmission. He then served as chief operating officer and CTO of Qligent, and later returned to L3Harris to work on satellite technologies, low-Earth-orbit ground stations and global networking systems.
The company said its engineering teams are also looking at audience analytics, IoT sensors, point-of-sale systems and specialized electronics as possible additions to its broadcast and network business.
