FEMA has set out its expectations for a nationwide Emergency Alert System test planned for November. The test would reach radio and TV stations and other EAS participants across the country.
The test date, timing and the specific expectations for participants were not available at publication. Official details for national tests are normally issued by FEMA and the FCC's Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau.
National EAS tests check whether an alert can travel from the federal level through the relay chain to the public. In past national tests, EAS participants have also had to report their results to the FCC through the EAS Test Reporting System, known as ETRS, before and after the test.
Stations should confirm their EAS equipment is working and current, check that their ETRS information is up to date, and watch for the FCC and FEMA notices that set the official test date and reporting deadlines.
