SummitMedia cuts programming, creative and engineering chiefs

SummitMedia cuts three corporate leaders

SummitMedia has removed three senior leaders from its Birmingham corporate office: SVP of Programming Maurice DeVoe, SVP and Creative Director Val Nicholas, and VP of Engineering Jeff McGinley. The company handed their responsibilities to executives already on staff.

On the engineering side, Vice President of Information Technology Brett Glover will add oversight of engineering. McGinley had run the company's engineering since July 2023. Before that he spent four years as director of technical operations for Audacy in Portland and Seattle. His earlier engineering posts included WFUV in New York, Fisher Communications in Missoula, Mont., CBS Radio and Entercom in Portland, Ore., iHeartMedia Seattle and the Telos Alliance.

On programming, J'Michael Francois now leads the company's Hip Hop and Rhythmic CHR stations in addition to his existing duties. Francois joined SummitMedia in July 2024 as VP of Programming for R&B and Gospel. DeVoe had held the Hip Hop and Rhythmic CHR post since July 2024. He first joined the company in March 2020 as operations manager for its Greenville, S.C., cluster. His earlier roles included program director of iHeartMedia's KMJM-FM "100.3 The Beat" in St. Louis, and 16 years at Cumulus Media in Dallas and Kansas City, where he served as corporate PD for Urban and Rhythmic formats.

Nicholas joined SummitMedia in November 2018 to work with its sales, marketing, programming and events leadership. Before that he spent 18 years at NBC, where his roles included VP and creative director for NBC News and VP of marketing for MSNBC. His career also included work at ABC Entertainment, NBC Entertainment and KCRA-TV Sacramento.

SummitMedia has not said whether it will fill any of the three positions.
