WNET to replace 'Amanpour & Company' on PBS after December

'Amanpour & Company' ends; WNET plans new show

Public TV stations that carry Amanpour & Company will need to fill that slot in the new year. The WNET Group in New York is developing a replacement current affairs program for the PBS show, which ends in December.

The change follows host Christiane Amanpour's announcement on Monday's broadcast that she is leaving CNN in June 2027. "I have decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years, longer than many marriages," Amanpour said. Her CNN International program, Amanpour, will move from daily to weekly and end in May. She will keep reporting for the cable network through June.

Amanpour & Company started in 2018 as a co-production of CNN International and the WNET Group, built as an expanded version of the CNN International show. Correspondent Hari Sreenivasan, journalist and author Walter Isaacson and Michel Martin, co-host of NPR's Morning Edition, have all contributed to it. A WNET spokesperson said the program reaches 97% of the nation's broadcast markets.

WNET has not yet named a host or described the format of the new program. The spokesperson said details will be shared in the coming weeks. "The WNET Group is deeply grateful to Christiane Amanpour for her extraordinary contributions to WNET/THIRTEEN, PBS and independent public media," the spokesperson said.

Public TV programmers who schedule Amanpour & Company may want to watch for WNET's announcement as they plan their schedules past December.
